Full panel list:

Saturday -- Room A

10:00: OTWhee! The resurgence of polyamory in fan fiction.
(Moderator: Rachael Sabotini)

11:00: Blood, Magic, Aliens: Inside the Metaphorical Closet

(Moderators: sweetestdrain & Greensilver)

The uberzealous religious right of HBO's True Blood proclaims "God Hates Fangs," BBC's young warlock Merlin is still trying to keep his "magic" secret, and Clark Kent has hidden his spandex under respectable office attire for several decades. How many of our favorite genre fandoms contain elements that can be read as metaphorical representations of "the closet"? Are these elements intentional? If not, can we read them the same way?

2:00: The Art of the Con

(Moderator: killabeez)

White Collar, Leverage, Hustle, Ocean's Eleven, Burn Notice-- What is it about confidence men and women that fascinates us? Do we love them because they live outside the rules, because they're smarter than everybody else, or because of all those delicious, sticky trust issues? When the "bad guys" are the good guys, all bets are off.

3:00: I Hear Voices In My Head: How to Make a Mountie (or a Soldier, or an Air Force Pilot with the ATA Gene and a Thing for Brilliant Scientist Types) Think and Talk in Character

(Moderator: Queue)

Sometimes it seems like the trickiest thing about writing fanfic - especially if you're active in multiple fandoms - is capturing the characters' voices. With certain exceptions (because when are there not?), canonical characters speak in specific ways that are part and parcel of who they are and what they represent. Getting inside the way characters communicate can make or break a story, but doing so takes more than an eye for an "ain't" or an ear for a beautiful polysyllable. What are some practical ways to learn a character's voice - and how can a writer put that voice into words in ways that read authentic and not imitative?

Saturday -- Room B

10:00: Hugh Dillon is Kittens

(Moderators: Belmanoir & mrs_laugh_track)

Hugh Dillon is primarily famous in some circles for spitting. His acting roles include punk rockers, rogue bikers, snipers, and stone-cold killers. But even at the height of his "asshole years," as he calls them, he gave thoughtful interviews, shared his acting income with his band, and could be counted on to be polite to someone's mom. How do you reconcile the bad-ass image and the concern for haircare products? The cursing and the ludicrously big vocabulary? The ego and the genuine interest in others? At this panel we'll discuss the apparent contradictions in Hugh's presentation, and how they've evolved (or not) over the course of his career. Also, how they're so adorable.

11:00: Leverage: Why I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Sorbet

(Moderators: _unhurt_ & Raine Wynd)

Need a palate cleanser after all the SPN angst? Come and be pimped into the coolest small fandom around.

2:00: Worldbuilding

(Moderator: Salieri)

Build Your Own World Redux. How do we make worlds coherent and credible? Last con we built a world in the panel. We can do it again.

3:00: TOS vs. Reboot

(Moderator: bluebrocade)

Which is first in your heart now? Can we love both? What elements (characterization/plot/set decoration/villians/etc.) does the Reboot do better? What does it do worse?

Sunday -- Room A

10:00: AUs and Crossovers

(Moderator: Salieri)

Just like it says on the label. What are the basic elements of a good AU or crossover? What do we like about them? What makes them work? What are the challenges for both writers and readers?

11:00: Fandom is Part of My Life, Too

(Moderators: SDWolfpup, Brynn McK & Minim Calibre)

An interactive discussion on how we juggle fandom with school, work, relationships, and family, as applicable.

2:00: Can Fandoms Die?

(Moderators: Lorne Lover & L.A. Adolf)

We all got started, once up on a time, in some fandom. How many of us are still active there? How many countless fandoms have there been between then and now? How often do you reminisce about fandoms of old? Do you revisit them? Spend secret weeks bunkered down reading fic that is too *insert adjective here* to share, but some part of you still loves it, just a little? What about when new fans discover old fandoms and ask for recs--do you haul them all out and start pimping the great stories all over the place? How can you tell if your fandom is dying? How to stop it. Can it be stopped? Can a fandom ever really die?

3:00: Am I Crazy Or Did That Just Happen? Unreliable Narration

(Moderator: ifreet)

A discussion of techniques for using unreliable narration in fanworks, drawing on canonical examples in C6D fandoms.

Sunday -- Room B

10:00: White Collar
(Moderators: Arami & Solarcat)

11:00: due South: What's it got, ten years on?

(Moderators: mizface & snoopypez)

New fans seem to drift into due South regularly. But how does the canon 'read' in the very different world of 2010, where the gay is no longer just subtext, and gay marriage is legal in Canada? How do we interpret RayV's shirts, RayK's body language, Fraser's terror of Chicago women? And why does the show still grab us anyway?

2:00: Vidding for Beginners

(Moderators: Keerawa & Greensilver)

Don't know where to even start? We'll start with the basics and work from there.

3:00: Castle: I Don't Know Why I Love You, But I Do - Why Castle Is Winning Us Over

(Moderator: Queue)

Many of us came for Nathan Fillion and stayed for the rest of the characters and the relationships. This is a discussion about them - Castle & Alexis, Alexis & Kate, all of the cops, whatever makes you flappy-handed at the show. (If you are not flappy-handed at this show, whyever not? It's pretty, it's funny, it's all about chosen family in all sorts of ways, Ryan and Esposito are totally married and really not bothering to hide it - and did I mention it's Captain Tightpants and a remarkable number of redheads?)

Comments

Woohoo!!! And only one majorly heartbreaking choice for me (which may end up in a coin toss, because both are calling me to go).

You've done a superb job with this - thank you!!!
*clappyhands with glee about how sooooooooon this is*
Yay con schedule! And there is only one collision for me, too. \o/
Yays!

And once again I will be relying on other people to tell me which panel to go to when I'm all dithery CAN'T DECIIIIIIIDE. No change there, then. :D
Well, it's better then last time where nearly every pannel happening, I wanted to hit both. One really hard choice (Thank god for Random Coin Flip Genorators!) and two more "But...but...! ::sigh::" choices.

Three Weeks! Squeeee!
Yay, this is so great! I can't wait!
Just FYI, brynnmck & minim_calibre are my co-pilots moderators. *g*

1) awesome

2) thank you for your organisational magic!
Rock on!
We are working on a description for the White Collar panel, but for anyone who's wondering, we are planning to have:

--A basic (and major-spoiler-free) intro to the series/characters, for interested newcomers
--Awesome discussion of both Neal/Peter and Neal/Peter/Elizabeth (OT3 of my heart, people!)
--Other fabulousness!

So everyone should come to our awesome White Collar panel, OKAY?? Don't make Neal use the puppy eyes! =D
And I have all fourteen episodes, several vids, photos and script pages on my netbook. Just in case you need visual aids. ;)
Not the puppy eyes!!!

And ACK! I so owe you an email back. Sorry work is teh hell this week *sigh*
But yes yes everyone should come to the fun!!
awww, I am sad that certain mods won't be at the dS panel, then. :(
Only one possible conflict, so awesome scheduling! :)
Oh noes, now we come to the hard part: CHOOSING.

This icon is massively relevant because I could really use one of them.
